This Fairhaven, MA mudroom and garage addition is finally complete!
This family transformed their two bedroom ranch into a four bedroom colonial style home with a beautiful mudroom bre
ezeway and two car garage. With three young children and a rambunctious puppy romping in and out of the house, a mudroom was a must – the perfect place for backpacks, coats, muddy soccer cleats, and pet supplies. A gorgeous ceramic tile that mimics natural wood was installed in a herringbone pattern (installed by our friends at Picard Tiling) and will stand up to years of all weather foot traffic. In addition to the mudroom bench for organizing the kid’s stuff, a double closet provides the homeowner with an abundance of additional storage space. (If you’re into mudroom organization – get inspired by this blog) To tie the natural hardwood floors of the main house into the addition, oak stairs and railing lead to the bonus room above the garage.
With plenty of space for the entire family to play Just Dance on the Wii – the bonus room is the place to
be for friends and family. Cozy wall to wall carpet (this also has a subtle herringbone pattern) is the perfect welcome mat for a brotherly wrestling match, movie nights, and kid forts. The kids even have their own secret hideaway above the breezeway – cool for kids because it’s a super fun space – great for parents because it keeps the toys organized out of sight yet accessible. A full dormer opens up the ceiling and provides an abundance of natural light through the energy efficient Harvey windows. To provide both heating and air conditioning, the homeowner opted to install a ductless mini-split unit in the bonus room. This provides climate control all year round without the extending the existing, conventional heating/cooling system.
The two car garage makes it easy to transport a family’s worth of stuff in and out to the car – groceries, baseball bags, and puppy play dates are just a door away from the family vehicles. Over sized garage doors provide plenty of height and width for pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles.
