How To Maximize a Small Patio Space

With summer in full swing it is time to bust out your sunglasses and head outdoors. If you have a small patio space you may feel limited to what you can do, but with a few adjustments you can make it pop. These tips will help transform your small patio space into a perfect outdoor oasis that you will never want to leave.

What will you be using your patio for? – A good question to ask yourself is what exact purpose are you going to use your patio for. Will you be using it as an entertaining space, for eating, or for your own little sanctuary?  Answering this question will help utilize the small space you do have. You do not want to have furniture or decorations that will never be used. Find what is best for your needs and build around that.

Multipurpose Furniture – With a small space it is important to use it as effectively as possible. Using furniture with more than one purpose helps save space and gives you some room for creativity. For example a bench with hidden storage, is great place for you to hide your outdoor necessities so you only have to take them out when needed. Building the bench into the wall can maximize your space even more. Another resourceful option is a multi functional table. A table that also functions as a cooler or fire place, is a fantastic way to add a cozy element and keep the cold drinks flowing.  A fire place can also be perfect for cool fall evenings. A stool is another multi functional item that can be used in a couple of different ways. It can be used as a side table or a seat for someone to sit on.

Plants – Plants can be used to give the illusion of a bigger space. If placed alongside the outside of your patio it blends in with the rest of the yard giving the space a much larger look. Make sure not to choose plants that grow too big in one area that will defeat their purpose. Plants are also a way to help keep pesky bugs away while you are enjoying the nice weather. Some great plant options to add are Lemongrass, Scented Geranium, Peppermint, and Lavender.

Lighting & Accessories – Lights can transform your tiny space into a bright cozy retreat. Outdoor string lights are a great option to add a whimsical feel to your patio. Accessories can help add color and personality. Don’t be scared to add a rug, some throw pillows, and floor planters. They will only bring your patio to life and add some depth.

Remember to make the patio your own and enjoy the beautiful weather!
