Our Family is a Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year Semi-Finalist!

Our Family is a Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year Semi-Finalist!

We are excited to be one of the Top 30 families for the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year; the nationwide search and contest is hosted by Disney and Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service.

Here is a quick glance at how the contest has progressed:

    1. United Way of Greater New Bedford submitted a 500 word essay to nominate our family back in June. Disney and Points of Light reviewed nominations from around the country and we were among the Top 80 families chosen.
    2. The Top 80 families then had to submit a 2 minute, amateur video introducing themselves and why they should be Volunteer Family of the Year.
    3. Disney and Points of Light reviewed the Top 80 video submissions then selected the Top 30 semi-finalists – and here we are!! The Top 30 families were interviewed via video chat for 30-45 minutes by a member of the Points of Light team.
    4. The Top 5 finalists will be announced within the next week and will be featured as guests on Good Morning America!
    5. The country will then vote to help choose which of the Top 5 finalists will be the 2019 Volunteer Family of the Year. In addition to national exposure, United Way of Greater New Bedford could win $10,000 if we take home the grand prize!! Wow!!

Points of Light was inspired by the 1989 inaugural address of former President George H.W. Bush. He envisioned citizens as “1,000 points of
