Ahh…the sky is blue, the sun is shining, the bulbs are peeking out of the ground – spring is here! It’s time to start that Spring home maintenance checklist!
Although the calendar has ushered in a new season, most of us are still recovering from the havoc wreaked by the relentless winter weather. Be sure to take one of these sunny, spring days to inspect your home for any signs of wear or damage.
Notice any peeling paint or rotted corner boards? Perhaps you should consider maintenance free trim. Most people don’t realize that aluminum trim can be used with natural wood sidings like cedar shingles. With maintenance free products such as aluminum, you can retain the natural look of your shingles and simply wrap the trim to eliminate the cost and labor of painting every three or four years.
Tired of staining or painting your shingles and clapboards but are skeptical of maintenance free siding? When done properly, vinyl siding and faux cedar shingles are just as beautiful as their natural competitors. Give them a second look – you might be pleasantly surprised!
While you walk around the yard picking up branches and winter debris, check your roof for any missing, separated, cracked or curling shingles. Are you finding an excessive amount of granules collected at the bottom of your downspouts? This could be an indication that your roof needs replacing. Granules form a protective layer on the shingle and they are certainly not doing their job if they’ve all been washed to the ground.
Spring is the perfect time of year to get a fresh start on your home improvement projects – keep us in mind. We would love to make your house a Care Free home!
