Dana Pickup, Sr. co-founded Care Free Homes back in 1978. What began as a small roofing, siding, and window company quickly evolved into a full service general contracting company that specializes in roofing, siding, windows, new construction homes, additions, sunrooms, decks, and porches. We continue to be one of the area’s largest family owned and operated home improvement and construction companies.
2. Do you have a state-issued contractor’s license?
Absolutely! We are licensed in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Massachusetts Construction Supervisor’s License #021330, Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor’s License #100503, Rhode Island Contractor’s License #15179
3. Do you carry general liability and worker’s compensation insurance?
You bet. We are fully insured to provide homeowners, like you, with the necessary protection from any potential accidents.
4. May I have a list of references?
Of course! We have thousands of past customers that would love to share their home improvement experience with you. Much of our business comes from past customers and customer referrals! If you would like to see how a particular style and color product looks like installed on a home – past projects are a great way to showcase both our products and our workmanship!
5. Do you guarantee your work?
Indubitably! We proudly stand behind every project with our own 10 year workmanship guarantee.
6. What kind of product warranties do you offer?
Lots and lots! We only use professional grade products that come with unbeatable warranties. We are proud to be a Mastic Elite Contractor, GAF Master Elite Contractor, and more! Because of these accreditations, we are able to offer outstanding product warranties that a handyman can’t provide. You will receive specific warranty information on the product you choose and we will register it for you with the manufacturer.
7. Do you sub-contract and put projects out to bid?
Nope. We have our own team of qualified craftsman who are experts in their specific trade. Most of our Care Free crews have been with us for decades. Our roofing crews specialize in roofing, our siding crews specialize in siding, our carpentry crews specialize in carpentry – they do the same type of work day in and day out – making them absolute masters of their work.
8. Who pulls the permits for the project?
Not you! We apply for all permits which relieves homeowners of the responsibility to uphold local building codes – as the contractor, we assume all responsibility. By having your contractor apply for permits, Massachusetts homeowners also qualify for the Massachusetts State Guaranty Fund. This fund allows consumers to be reimbursed up to $10,000 for any unpaid judgments against a contractor. We are also experienced in dealing with special permitting processes that involve variances, historic and conservation boards.
9. How do I get an estimate?
Easy breezy! Getting an estimate is simple! We’ll schedule an appointment for you to meet with either Dana, Sr., Nate, Russell, or Joe. They’ll bring out product samples, take measurements, answer any questions you may have and we will provide you with a to-the-penny price for your project – no ballpark estimates – we only provide exact quotes. All estimates are no cost and no obligation.
10. What kind of payment options are available? Do we have to put down a deposit?
Wow Wee! Qualified homeowners can take advantage of several different financing options that we offer! Whether you are looking for smaller payments over a longer period of time, larger payments over a shorter period of time, or 12 months same as cash – we’ve got finance options for your project.
No joke -No deposits. (Be wary of contractors who do ask for one – this could indicate financial instability in the company.) For simple home improvement projects – we ask for absolutely no money down until the project is complete and the customer is satisfied. The only exception to this would be custom ordered sunrooms or large construction projects.
